Live Spiritual Direction

Topic: Mary, Mother and Bride

Join Father Michael Stalla and Laura Ercolino on May 13th, for this month’s Live Spiritual Direction.  We will end this session with a time for your questions.

  • What does the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us about Mary as Mother and Bride?
  • What can we learn from our recent Popes, especially St. John Paul II?
  • How is Mary symbolized by the Bride of the Song of Songs?
  • How does knowing that we are called to love with spousal love that reflects the pure and perfect spousal love of Jesus and Mary help us have holier marriages and families?

“In the context of the ‘great mystery’ of Christ and of the Church, all are called to respond – as a bride – with the gift of their lives to the inexpressible gift of the love of Christ, who alone, as the Redeemer of the world, is the Church’s Bridegroom.” – St. John Paul II

In the natural order, Mary is the biological Mother of Jesus. Spiritually, in a mystical or mysterious way, she is also the Spouse of the Holy Spirit and the Bride of Christ at the foot of the Cross.

All souls, Mary included, are called to respond to the gift of God’s love as a bride responds to her bridegroom – with openness and receptivity. Mary, perfectly responded to God’s love in every moment of her life and therefore she is the archetype of the Bride.

Mary is the perfect model, the best teacher, of what it means to live out the identity bestowed upon us at our baptism – Child of God and Bride of Christ.
