What Others Are Saying

I encountered my faith in a new way and light started to shine on wounds from my past.

To have my pain and wounds understood and validated was priceless and extraordinary. It still chokes me up.

The relative ease with which the words came, and the release after having read them, were surprising and unexpected.

I was so grateful for De and Betsy’s wisdom and love.

The Sacred Story group was so beautiful. Right away, I felt comfortable in a way I never do anywhere else.

Thank you for your vulnerability and courage to share your hearts with me.

I know that the time is a huge commitment, but it was one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself or my family.

Our lives are composed of many stories – scenes that may have lasted for moments or months – that were filled with shame, powerlessness, betrayal or heartbreak. The core stories of our upbringing lay the groundwork for how we live, love, and relate with those around us and ourselves.

Story Work uses your sacred story to identify the emotional, spiritual, and relational impacts of your core stories of neglect, loss, betrayal, or harm. Through the process of story-telling and story engagement, something truly transformative happens: we find the hope of redemption.

Who are these groups for?

  • Individuals who have experienced wounding or trauma in their early lives
  • Individuals desiring to share their Sacred Stories in a safe community
  • Individuals wanting to anchor more deeply into Christ as the center of their lives
  • Individuals seeking support and Catholic community, as we journey towards greater freedom and healing

What to Expect

  • Engage your story in a very intentional way within a safe and supportive setting. Through this engagement, we invite our Lord to speak truth into our memories and moments of wounding, including:
    • Sharing a specific story of heartache or harm
    • Re-processing memories with Jesus’ guidance; giving Him permission to provide what we needed then but did not receive
    • Understanding the impact on ourselves and others of not telling the truth about our story. (“You can’t take anyone farther than you have gone yourself” or “Trauma that isn’t transformed is transmitted”)
    • Growing in compassion for our younger self and our ability to tolerate grief
    • Accompanying others into dark places in their story
  • Learn Christ-centered therapeutic skills to aid in coping with anxiety, stress, and trauma responses.
  • Identify current cognitive patterns and ‘take thoughts captive to obey Christ’ in order to better support your healing process

Before registering, please check the meeting dates of the session and confirm that you will be able to attend all of the sessions. In order for every group member to feel safe and to share fully, consistent attendance is important. To ensure confidentiality and safety, sessions will NOT be recorded.
