Loving God, when I reflect on the times in my life, perhaps even in this day, when joy and sorrow intersect, my words fall short.
To say my life is bittersweet does not do it justice. I know that even in the midst of my greatest joys, there is something more that I am longing for. And even in the depths of anguish, there is something worth clinging to, worth hoping for.
This is the mystery at the heart of my life. This is the illusive presence that You are.
You, O Lord, are in the poignant touch, the heartrending embrace, the distressing smile. You are present in each moment that leaves me full and yet longing, empty yet open.
All of these tensions create in me a deep, deep yearning that only You can fill. Help me, Lord, to enter freely into that sacred space where joy and sorrow meet, that place where You dwell in mystery.
