Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go.
Flood my soul with Your spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly,
That my life may only be a radiance of Yours.
Shine through me, and be so in me
That every soul I come in contact with
May feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!
Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine,
So to shine as to be a light to others;
The light, O Jesus will be all from You; none of it will be mine;
It will be you, shining on others through me.
Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example,
By the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what I do,
The evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You.
“So be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love,
as Christ loved us and handed himself over for us
as a sacrificial offering to God for a fragrant aroma.” -Ephesians 5:2
I am Your Beloved daughter.
You called me, You chose me.
I know I have been given an abundant inheritance as one of Your own.
You desire for me to claim my inheritance, to ask and receive. Although I often squander or neglect the gifts You have given, through the blood of Christ crucified, the waters of Baptism, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation, Your grace is always available to me.
Today I ask You to remind me, and all of my sisters, that You give us what is needed to live courageously holy lives in service of You. Give us the presence of mind to intentionally invite the Holy Spirit into every thought, deed, and interaction. Give us the strength to conform ourselves to the image of Christ, the firstborn of all creation. Bless us with unshakable faith in Your Fatherly Love.
“For this reason…we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.” -Colossians 1:9-12
Heavenly Father, thank you for the life and model of Saint John the Baptist. We look at his commitment to Your singular purpose, and we desire to be filled with the same. Lord, through the message of Saint John the Baptist, You call us each to uncompromising holiness and to awareness and repentance of all that keeps us from You. Grant that heeding this call becomes my singular desire!
I give You permission to shine Your Light into every corner of my interior being. Please clear away the cobwebs from my mind and my heart, that I may see myself more clearly. That I may see You more clearly. I give You now all that keeps me from living this day in accord with the singular purpose of holiness. Draw me closer to You. By Your grace, I surrender all the distractions and worries that creep into my heart, dimming Your light, dampening my desire for You.
Lord, send Your Holy Spirit now upon me. Set a fire in my heart! Fill me with an ever-growing desire for what is holy and pleasing to You, my God.
“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” – Matthew 3:11
Today we lift up all the men to whom You have entrusted the gift of life.
We thank You for the men called to physical fatherhood and for spiritual fathers.
We thank You for giving us a glimpse of Your fatherly attributes in those fathers who have loved and protected us well.
We thank You for redeeming those father relationships which have been marked with pain and brokenness.
We thank You that, no matter what our personal experience of fatherhood might be, You are the perfect Father.
You love us, and accept us, and want us to know, deep in our bones, our true worth as Your beloved daughters. You protect us and bind our wounds when we fall or our hearts get broken.
You gather us tenderly in Your arms and give us rest.
Father, we love You, help us learn to rely entirely on You with childlike trust and surrender.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort…” -2 Corinthians 1:3
I want my heart to be completely free to love You, Who are Love itself.
Give me a heart free of self absorption, that I might know and love Christ in every person I meet.
Give me a heart brimming with joy and peace, that remains firmly rooted in You, no matter my circumstances.
Give me a heart free of doubt: doubt in You, Your faithfulness and perfect plan for my life; doubt in myself and the gifts You have given me; doubt in others’ intentions towards me.
Give me a heart that is malleable, that can be molded and lovingly shaped, like clay in the Potter’s hands, to be evermore in the likeness of Christ’s Sacred Heart, Mary’s Immaculate Heart, and St. Joseph’s pure heart.
Give me a heart that breaks with Yours at the sufferings of others and the hurt that seems to permeate the world.
Give me a heart that can stretch and expand to welcome and nurture the lonely, the hurting, the weak.
Hide me in Your Most Sacred Heart, Jesus.
Enkindle my heart with Your gifts and fruits, my advocate, oh Holy Spirit.
Thank You for teaching me how to love.
“Beloved…Since you have purified yourselves
by obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love,
love one another intensely from a pure heart.
You have been born anew,
not from perishable but from imperishable seed,
through the living and abiding word of God…” – 1 Peter 1:22 & 23
Cultivate joy, Holy Spirit, make my heart into your garden. Dig deeply, dig boldly, and dig freely. I resolve to put nothing in the way of Your cultivation. Weed and prune my heart as You desire. Water and cultivate my soul as You desire. Tend my heart as You please.
Cultivate poverty of life,
Cultivate chastity of heart,
Cultivate obedience of mind.
Root out what does not belong in the garden of my heart, and use whatever tools You desire.
Root out the weeds of selfishness, that tempt me to keep my fruit for myself.
Root out the weeds that hide deep below the surface, the weeds I am afraid to expose to Your Sunlight.
Root out the weeds of vanity, that desperately seek the light of the world, only to wither.
Root out the weeds of fear, that keep me from even planting myself in Your soil.
Root out the weeds of worldly cares, which choke Your fruitfulness in me.
Prune the branches of my heart, of the genuine loves that must be separated from worldly and selfish clingings.
Prune my commitments and give clarity of where You desire for me to serve.
Prune my words, that my mouth may be used only to build up Your Kingdom.
Prune my desires, that I may seek to be cultivated by You always.
Prune my whole life, that by abiding in You and bearing fruit, I may prove to be Your disciple.
Most Blessed Mary, Mother of God, you are the Immaculate One, through whom shines the fullness of grace. Here, then, I stand, your daughter, seeking refuge in your motherly protection.
Today I entrust to you the future that awaits me, and I ask you to be with me as I go on my way. I wish to take you into my home, that I may learn from you and give my steady and perpetual YES to God.
Mary, I humbly seek your intercession with your beloved Son, that He may give me, in abundance, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth. May the Holy Spirit open my heart and help me grow in awareness of and sensitivity to His promptings, moving always toward freedom and peace.
My mother, I entrust to you my daily cares, the daily trials which life brings. Come to my aid and stand between me and my weakness. Be my strength. Lend me your purity and courage to resist the devil always.
I commit my journey to you, that you will guide me ever closer to Christ. I pray that I will be strengthened in spirit, mind, and body to follow your example of total surrender to the Father’s perfect Will.
Thank you for the innumerable blessings You have given us in our sisters. To have other women we can connect with, share our faith with, and share our hearts with, is a unique and precious gift.
I ask that You guide any one of our sisters who feels isolated or lonely to a loving community where she can grow a supportive, comforting sisterhood. Send your Spirit to intently nudge at our hearts to reach out beyond our established circle of sisters to see Your daughters who are searching for community. Give us holy boldness and selfless love.
We ask You to bless the gatherings of your daughters taking place in various events across the world, in particular for those attending the Made New Freedom Retreat and the Brave Ministry Conference. Fill each participant with peace and an unshakable understanding of Your Fatherly love.
We love you and we long to serve You with our whole beings and our sisterhood.
“…Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” -Ruth 1:16
Each new morning is a gift of Your mercy. If we were fully aware of the boundless grace You pour on us, hymns of joy and thanksgiving would be the first sounds to leave our lips, and an echoing chorus would fill each moment of our lives with song:
For mercies beyond any height or depth or breadth or width we can fathom, Lord, we thank You!
For another day to sing Your praises with every fiber of our being, Lord, we thank You! May we remember throughout this day that You are always with us!
For the work You place before us today that can be offered back to You as a loving sacrifice, Lord, we thank you! May our offering be made with joy!
For all of Your children who we will encounter today, Lord, we thank you! May we lovingly see Your face in each of theirs!
For the gift of resting in Your mercy once more at the end of the day, Lord, we thank You!
When all hope seemed lost You broke through the darkness, conquered sin and death, and gave us hope beyond comprehension!
Give us the grace to bring Your hope to the hopeless.
We thank You and praise You for making us new through Your Resurrection!
May our lives give witness to Your glory and healing grace.
By Your Passion, Cross, and Resurrection You have given us true freedom!
May our hearts be open and ever more deeply surrendered to You,
that we can actively receive this gift of Freedom.
Lord, on the Cross Your everlasting Love for each one of us poured out, reclaiming each one as Your own, your chosen one, Your Beloved.
Send the Holy Spirit to nurture our belief in the Truth You speak and to defend us from the lies that try to keep us from embracing our true identity in You.
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his mercy endures forever.
Let the house of Israel say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let those who fear the LORD say,
“His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 118:1 & 2
God is so good to us! He blesses us in ways beyond what we imagine and He shows us His love in completely unexpected ways!
Let me back up little…
The past two weeks our Thursday Sisterhood Chats have been focused on different ways or “experiments” we can use to approach our anxiety:
Last week in Part 1 we explored getting curious about our anxieties (experiment 1) and bringing our anxieties to the Lord using the 3 steps of Repentance, Forgiveness, and Reconciliation (experiment 2). This Thursday, in Part 2, we dug deeper into what it means to give thanks (experiment 3) and surrender (experiment 4).
Surrender…I don’t know about you but that is one of those words that I know is central to my relationship with God, but I would honestly rather not deal with- it’s scary! Somehow it feels easier to continue believing that I am in control and that I can take care of everything, but (spoiler alert!) I can’t. You can’t.
Let that sink in. He is in control. He can take care of everything. He has and He is and He will take care of everything, if we surrender everything to Him.
De shared a beautiful prayer with us yesterday: The Novena of Surrender to the Will of God. We prayed the first day of the Novena together on Facebook Live and it was so powerful we decided to join together in prayer for all nine days!
Well, we later realized that the last day of the novena will fall on Holy Saturday, just in time for us to be made new at the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday! Isn’t He good to us?!
We invite you to join us in this transformative prayer these next 8 days. I have included the prayers for Days 1 and 2 below so you can jump right in! And we will also post daily reminders on our social media pages.
To learning to surrender and being Made New,
Novena of Surrender to the Will of God
Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying?
Leave the care of your affairs to me and everything will be peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind, complete surrender to me produces the effect that you desire and resolves all difficult situations.
Repeat 10 times…
O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything!
Surrender to me does not mean to fret, to be upset, or to lose hope, nor does it mean offering to me a worried prayer asking me to follow you and change your worry into prayer. It is against this surrender, deeply against it, to worry, to be nervous And to desire to think about the consequences of anything. It is like the confusion that children feel when they ask their mother to see to their needs, and then try to take care of those needs for themselves so that their childlike efforts get in their mother’s way. Surrender means to placidly close the eyes of the soul, to turn away from thoughts of tribulation and to put yourself in my care.
Repeat 10 times…
O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything!
Lord, we ache for heaven. We are acutely aware that this is not right. That the pain we experience is not right. That the pain we see in others is not right.
The distress stirs in each of us the cry, How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and every sorrow in my heart?
Sovereign Lord, You take those cries. You embrace them. You cry over them. And continue to allow them.
Because You have triumphed over the cause of them.
Lord, stir in us a sense of Your purpose and sovereignty.
So we trust in Your unfailing love; our hearts rejoice in Your salvation, that which is both now and not yet. We will sing to You, Lord, because You have been good to us.
You see the pain and declare it is not meaningless. Lord, You are so good. I thank You for how You, my Great Redeemer, have been with me through all, drawing me closer into Your embrace, oh Man of Sorrows.
“How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?” -Psalm 13:2
O Holy Spirit, divine Spirit of light and love, I give myself to You; my understanding, my heart, my will, my whole being for time and for eternity. May my understanding be always obedient to Your heavenly inspirations and the teachings of the holy Catholic Church of which You are…
Heavenly Father, Your word says that a meek and quiet spirit is of great value to You. I find it difficult to humble myself at times, and to let meekness and gentleness guide my words, my behavior. Too many times to count, I have uttered harsh words to those whom…
“May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given…
O Lord my God, Teach my heart this day, where and how to find You. Teach me to seek You, for I cannot seek You unless You teach me, or find You unless You show Yourself to me. Let me seek You in my desire; let me desire You in…
Heavenly Father, My true identity is revealed in You alone: Beloved. And yet in this world, I too often forget or compromise this truth. I need Your help to recognize the enemy's deceptions, his lies about my dignity and my worth. Lord, increase in me fortitude, courage, and spiritual discipline…
