Body and Soul: Incarnation
With Father Michael Stalla
God created us as fully integrated people with body and soul. While spiritual things are of greater value and importance, we are not to neglect or disregard care of the body. Respect for the body is a respect for the soul within. Christ, becoming flesh, has raised up the dignity and reverence of the body. We are called to love with both body and soul.
-
- A person without a body is a ghost. A person without a soul is a cadaver.
- The attempt to reach the soul is performed through the body.
- Art and beauty are physical realities that stir our inner spiritual life.
- We cannot detach from the body, as if our souls can act apart from the body.
- God became human, elevating the dignity of the human race.
- Out of respect for the incarnation of Christ, we are called to respect our bodies.
- The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit
