A Reflection on the Splendor of a Sunrise

Dear God, each day You display the splendor of Your love and creativity through a sunrise. It is the start of a new day and the renewal of Your promises to us. Each day we can begin again as we hope to grow closer to You.

As I reflect on one particularly beautiful sunrise from earlier this summer at the beach, I am reminded of how good all of Your creations are. The sky was blue, yellow, pink, and orange, each color adding to the scene much like each unique human adds to our world, bringing something special that only he or she can. You created each one of us to be unique and to bring different gifts to the world.

The clouds slowly became outlined in a bright pink glow calling me to look right at them as I awaited the subtle movements and moments of change. It reminded me of when You call me to look directly at You in prayer and to step into Your presence.

As the sun slowly made an appearance above the horizon line, it felt like You were looking directly at me, reminding me that You will never leave. In that moment You were right there with me and I felt seen, known, and loved; perfect just as I am.

As the sun continued to rise up, the bright rays of light burst forth much like the brilliance of Your light. You bring light to all things and light up even the darkest moments. You are the light of the world.

The sunrays illuminated the water and rippled out to the shore, just as we can reach out and have numerous impacts on our own worlds. We are Your beloved children and we carry You in our lives and in each daily encounter.

Help us to shine as brilliantly as this spectacular sunrise in all that we do. Thank You for the glory of Your creation and the ways that You continue to create masterpieces on a daily basis. Help us to keep our eyes open to see the small everyday miracles in our lives. You are present and with us in each moment. Never let us forget this. In Your Holy Name, we pray. Amen.

Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn. -Isaiah 60:3
