Prayer for Forgiveness

“He who knows how to forgive prepares for himself many graces from God.  As often as I look upon the cross, so often will I forgive with all my heart.” – Diary of St. Faustina, 390

Dear Jesus, during this season of Lent, please help me to have a tender and forgiving heart. In the same way that you look on me with constant love, direct me to look back to you with that same love. You are love and I want to seek and become that love, in deeply personal ways.

Help me to share your eternal love and forgiveness with everyone that I encounter. When you forgive me with the greatest mercy, help me to extend that same mercy to those that wrong or harm me.

What I have to offer you is so small, but please use it for your glory. In each small and large moment, I want to remember to turn back to you. When I see your body on the cross, I know that you are looking right at me.

You did it all for everyone ever created and You did it all for me in particular. I am so grateful for that truth. It’s a pure gift that I can never repay, so help me to live my life in a way that is worthy of your love and your life given for me.

Lord, please soften my heart this Lent and help me to return to you with my whole heart. I don’t want to live divided or confused. You are the most important thing, never let me forget this. When I look at you on the cross, I am fully seen, known, and loved.
In your most holy name, Jesus, we pray. Amen.

I invite you to take some time today to look at Jesus on the cross and recall all that He has done for you. Look at him and let him love you.
