Prayer of Contemplation & Deepening Awareness of God
a Divine union, in which the Lord takes His delight in the soul and the soul takes its delight in Him – St. Teresa of Avila
Lord, I long to spend more time with You. The noise, unrest, and busy-ness around me urges and deepens my desire for quiet time with You. You alone bring relief to my heart and soul. Each quiet breath, drawn slowly and with the whisper of Your Name, shifts my gaze until it once again rests on Your abiding Presence within me. Thank You Jesus! Thank You that You, my Rest, my Comfort and Consolation, perpetually and patiently await my return to our interior home.
As I settle in for a time of interior rest with You, I hope for a graced moment of contemplation; awaken me to even deeper awareness and desire for You! Breathe in me. Infuse my interior life with Your Divine Breath.
When I, once again return my attention to my exterior activities, help me remain faithful to Your Will, with each thought, word and action. Until we meet one another again, in the silence of interior contemplation, I make my day an offering to You. In Your Name, Amen.
A Note from De:
This prayer was inspired by my reading and meditating upon St. Teresa of Avila’s stages of mystical prayer, which she describes in her autobiography and in her, Interior Castle. I invite you to join me in learning from St. Teresa, as well as from St. John Paul II, through praying The Contemplative Rosary. In the contemplative rosary, “the focus is worship, drawing our hearts to bow in awe before the Triune God, whom the Rosary reveals to us…we place our bodies, mind, and hearts at the Lord’s disposal.” – The Contemplative Rosary with St. John Paul II and St. Teresa of Avila by Dan Burke and Connie Rossini. Available at Sophia Institute Press here.
We pray the Contemplative Rosary in community (over zoom) every Thursday morning at 11am. You can find more details as well as a listing of all of our daily and weekly prayer gatherings through our new community app, hosted by our sister ministry Hope’s Garden. Learn more and register here: https://hopesgarden.mn.co/landing.
I hope to see you there!
