The Symphony That Silences
Day and night they do not stop exclaiming, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty who was, and who is and who is to come. – Revelation 4:8
I have heard my Lord calling to me in the night, His voice tender and sweet. The voice of my Beloved is music, healing balm, to my broken heart. And my soul cannot help but to sing a song of love and thanksgiving in reply. The prayers of the Rosary and The Song of Songs are the lyrics of our love song.
I have also heard the whispered hissing and incessant manipulative chatter of the evil spirits. The demons want only to tear me away from my Beloved and they know that it is in hearing His harmonious soothing song that I am drawn ever closer to His Heart. They utter words that entice me to doubt who my Lord has said I am and the everlasting unconditional love He has professed to me.
“Who do you think you are? Why would the Lord of Creation love you? You are nothing. You matter to no one. You could never do and be enough for Him to notice you.”
Oh such insidious lies they screech and hiss in my ears! Their screams are deafening and threaten to drown out the voice of my Lord and my God, my Beloved Jesus. Why does He not silence these spirits of worthlessness, low self-esteem, self-blame, shame, and despair? As I cry out to my Savior to come to my aid, to sing His song louder and louder so I may hear it over this evil din, I hear instead His firm command to “Pray without ceasing! Sing your song of love to Me and you will drown out the screeching of the demons.”
As I pray the Rosary or speak verses of The Song of Songs aloud, I feel my heart and soul dancing to a beautiful inaudible melody and I see the very air come alive with heavenly music. If the evil spirits remain in this space, I do not know for their hissing can no longer be heard as the saints and angels, Mother Mary, and my Beloved Himself join in the song.
I believe, Jesus’ command to silence the demons with the music of unceasing prayer is meant for all who love the Lord and fight for the salvation of precious souls. If the enemy’s weapon is a maddening hissing din then our weapon is a melodic heavenly symphony. A battle cry of songs, hymns, and chants of praise, adoration, and thanksgiving. We must lift our hearts and souls to the Lord in unceasing prayer so the very air comes alive with the heavenly sound of the Name of Jesus. His mighty Name, the prayers of the Mass, the Holy Scriptures, the Rosary, and the most beautiful love song ever sung, The Song of Songs, become a beautiful symphony, a heavenly song, to drown out the screeching of the demons and fill the world with God’s Truth, Love, and Peace.
A closing prayer:
Dear Jesus, I desire to pray without ceasing. When I cannot proclaim Your Name and worship You with my tongue may my soul sing a song of love and praise to You. May my entire being never cease to sing of Your glory and mercy. Lord, I offer the singing of my soul to You through the Immaculate Heart of Mother Mary, so that my song may join with the music of others and our heavenly symphony of unceasing prayer will become the melody that draws souls to You. Amen.
