Prayer to Spread Your Fragrance

O Jesus, grant me the grace to set aside tasks and “doing” for brief moments today and simply linger in Your presence.  I long to draw so near to You, so close that “I too will have a sweet smell and will be anointed with perfumes; His perfumes will be mine also so that I will be able to say with the apostles: we are the good odor of Christ everywhere.” (Origen, early theologian and scholar). As I pray the lines below, written by St. John Henry Newman, Jesus come and overpower me with Your goodness and radiance, so I may carry Your scent and Your beauty into the world today. – Amen

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go.
Flood my soul with Your spirit and life.
Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly,
That my life may only be a radiance of Yours.

Shine through me, and be so in me
That every soul I come in contact with
May feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus!

Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine,
So to shine as to be a light to others;
The light, O Jesus will be all from You; none of it will be mine;
It will be you, shining on others through me.

Let me thus praise You the way You love best, by shining on those around me.
Let me preach You without preaching, not by words but by my example,
By the catching force of the sympathetic influence of what I do,
The evident fullness of the love my heart bears to You.

-John Henry Cardinal Newman

Let my prayer be like incense offered before you, and my uplifted hands like the evening sacrifice. – Psalm 141:2

“I am humbled and privileged to walk alongside my sisters in Christ, to be invited into their stories and life experiences. I pray we will each know – really claim in our bones - how deeply, unconditionally, and extravagantly we are loved by God our Father. May we open ourselves to His love and allow it to change our lives!” – De
