What is wrong with me?! Look at her – her life just works. What am I doing wrong?
If I had a dime for everytime I’ve heard these or similar words as I am ministering to a woman, I’d have a truck-load of dimes by now! We compare our lives to others, and always come up short. I mean, look at my Facebook page. I am always up to something fun, my husband and I are happy all the time, and my kids are so well-behaved. NOT!!
I imagine we’ve all had an experience of looking around the neighborhood or the internet and feeling that pang of “not enough.” And I hope we realize by now that “not enough” is a straight-up lie, spoken into our hearts by our common adversary, the devil. Believe me when I tell you that the woman you’ve felt envious of has also grappled with feelings of unworthiness or not enough.
Grounding in Truth Together
As we’ve witnessed the pervasiveness of ‘comparison’ and how it leads us to isolate or withdraw for fear of not measuring up, we’ve also witnessed the remedy. Namely, authentic sisterhood. There is this moment early on in our sisterhood gatherings, be it on retreat or in a small group setting, when a nearly audible ‘collective sigh of relief’ is exhaled.
“I thought I was the only one who felt that way.”
“You struggle with that also? I had no idea.”
In an effort to provide all of us with more opportunities for authentic sisterhood, we are introducing a revised format for our monthly sisterhood chats. Beginning in September, our Sisterhood Chats provide a structure for you to gather a small group together for a meaningful time of sisterhood, engaging in important conversations that deepen our faith and help us take greater hold of the freedom that Christ won for us. We’ll provide everything you’ll need, including the video chat for your viewing, discussion guide and tips for hosting a fruitful gathering. Just insert Sisters-in-Christ (and maybe some snacks!).
So, what do you say? Will you host a 2-hour ‘Sisterhood Chat’ gathering? September’s video is titled, “Overcoming Anxiety and Lies of the Enemy.” I think we can all relate to that, huh?! You can preview the video, find the discussion guide and tips for hosting a chat here: https://youaremadenew.com/connect-with-us/sisterhood-chats/
Got questions? Feel free to contact me directly: firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to connecting with you!
Thank you for joining me in fostering a climate of authentic sisterhood, in our communities, our homes, and our hearts!
